Pen Name:カーター・ディクスン(Carter Dicson)/(Carr Dickson)/(Roger Fairbairn)。ペンシルヴェニア州ユニオンタウン生まれ。1933年渡英。
ディクソン・カア、ディクソン・カー等表記は様々。ディクスン・カーで統一。不可能犯罪ものや歴史ミステリものを得意とする。

ミステリもたまに読むのは、小学生の時に読んだカーの『踊る人形の謎』に影響されている。傑作『曲がった蝶番』の子供版である。
これとヴァン・ダインの『呪われた家の秘密』つまり『グリーン家殺人事件』の二冊が嗜好を決めた。
『曲がった蝶番』の怪奇趣味がたぶんに好きで一時期、カーにはまったことがある。が、あまりにも昔すぎて、いまとなっては覚えていないことが多い。
リストを造りながら、しみじみともういちど、読みたい作家なんだなと感じた。
