ピューリッツァー賞(Pulitzer Prize)
新聞等の印刷報道、文学、作曲に与えられる米国で最も権威ある賞である。
ハンガリー系アメリカ人ジャーナリストでニューヨークワールド紙の経営者ジョセフ・ピュリッツァー(József Pulitzer)、(ハンガリー表記(Pulitzer József)(1847/ 4/10-1911/10/29)の遺志に基づき、1917年に創設された。
遺産の一部がコロンビア大学に寄付され、1912年にジャーナリズム科大学院(Graduate School of Journalism)が創設され、同賞を運営している。
1917年6月4日に一回目が発表され、翌年から毎年4月に受賞者が発表されている。
ジャーナリズムの中でも、アメリカ合衆国国内の新聞社や通信社の報道機関のみが対象であり、テレビやラジオ等の放送ジャーナリズムは対象外である。当初9部門の賞が設定された。
毎年21の分野を賞の対象とする、このうち20の分野での受賞者に1万米ドルの賞金と賞状が、受賞新聞社に対しては金メダルが与えられる。
